Best Year Ever for Ottawa Music # 5

What a year it has been. I hope calling everyone here, Ottawa artists hasn't relegated them in any way as just good for a "local" band. The reality is everyone listed here has made great music and can and should be appreciated by music fans living in Ottawa or Tokyo. Adding to this amazing year is the latest release by John Geggie, Ottawa's bass player extraordinaire. From his work with Chelsea Bridge to his guest appearances with the NAC Orchestra to his late night jam sessions at the Ottawa Jazz Festival to his stunning series of annual concerts at the NAC 4th stage he has created so many magical music moments at live shows and in the recording studio it is hard to imagine that the best is yet to come. But that is what his latest CD "Across the Sky" shows clearly. It is an amazing disc and is one of the best discs I heard this year. It features drummer Nick Fraser, pianist Nancy Walker
and saxophonist Donny McCaslin. This disc swings, swirls, swoops and soars across a moving shady soundscape. This is accessible music that dips a little outside from time to time. The canvas they paint is beautiful and stays with you for a long time.
